Morning                   9am to Noon

SMASH the PATRIARCHY by learning how to use power tools. We hope you will feel confident and capable at the end of this camp experience. We will use these tools on projects that we have going on around the property and give you an understanding of when, where, how, and why to use power tools. We will also go over the uses of non-power tools like: the level, tape measure, speed square, clamps, hammers, plumb line, etc. Every person, young or old, who dreams of being independent or who is even a little scared of power tools will benefit from this camp. Imagine how it will feel to be the handy-person your friends and family turn to for help with projects that require "know-how" when it comes to power tools. Imagine feeling strong, smart, and brave with a drill or a saw in your hand. You will be unstoppable.

Cost: $200 per person. All tools and materials provided.
Hours: 9am to Noon M-F
Who is this for? 12 yr. olds and UP!

Afternoon           1pm to 4pm

Smash the Patriarchy in the morning and Smash Glass in the afternoon. What could be more empowering?
Using bits of broken and cut colored glass and sanded grout, we will make some beautiful framed pieces to take home and hang in a window. You can't go wrong with colored glass and sunlight!
You'll learn to break, cut, and grind glass. In all likelihood, there will be blood... no worries, bandaids are provided.

Cost: $230 per person. All tools and materials provided.
Hours: 1pm to 4pm M-F
Who is this for? Anyone 12 yrs old and up!

The Week of June 6 - 10th, 2022

Picture
Morning                   9am - Noon
Imagine puppets as big as you are...or bigger. We will explore making them with materials that we usually throw away. We will search the forest for perfect sticks and branches and look for discarded items that can be upcycled. We will use an inordinate quantity of duct tape to lay the foundation of the sculpted parts. These we will cover with layers of paper mache. Then you'll paint it the way you want it. In the end, you will have a weird and lovely puppet from your imagination. You can take home your new friend at the end of the week.

Cost: $200 per person. All materials included.
Hours: 9am to Noon M-F
Who is this for? Anyone 12 years old and up.

Afternoon                 1pm - 4pm
There's not much as satisfying and comfortable as creating something clever out of an old stick or cast-off piece of wood. We will teach you the basics of whittling wood with a few good (sharp) tools, some sandpaper, and orange oil and beeswax.
You might make a spoon, a spreading knife, or a figurine of some kind. We will look for good whittling roots and branches as well as use pieces of lumber. We will introduce you the art and science of sharpening your own knife. The projects will be more or less hand size. You can take your projects home, but we'll keep the tools. If you have your own tools you would like to use, that's fine.

Cost: $200 per person. All supplies included.
Hours: 1pm to 4pm M-F
Who is this for? Anyone 12 yrs old and up.

We Would Love to Have You Visit Soon!

School on the Rise values and supports diversity in its many dimensions, including but not limited to each person’s unique combination of race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, age, physical ability, learning style, religious beliefs, political views, perspectives, and life experiences.

By embracing diversity, we expand our understanding of others. By reflecting on our inherent personal biases, we stimulate our own learning and growth. By doing both, we connect with one another and the world. We believe this is healthy and key to moving beyond simple tolerance, building a safe, positive, and nurturing environment that affirms each individual’s sense of belonging, dignity, and significance
